Small Business Checking Account Is it illegal for me to use my current account for small business (which I am co-owner) for personal use? Can I use the account of small businesses to write checks or make withdrawals for personal items such as groceries, personal letters, etc.? I am co-owner of this company. Are there penalties for doing so? technically not, depends on the other owner. My father has a business and we use to check for any business. most of our cuz its only income. done for 20 years now with no probs Not as long as they are not claimed as business expenses on your tax return. But more importantly, your business partners should agree with it, and how the money is to be considered should be discussed. Not that I know, but for tax purposes, it raises bookkeeping issue. If you try out something personal right through the business account, then it would be illegal if caught. The most important is what your co-owners want you to use it this way? simple way is to keep separate personal from business .... Your accountant thank you. It is not illegal, but your partner would not appreciate it, I'm sure. You might get wrapped up in some legal issues on this front. Yes and No, just always on the right of your car a check,,, IRS wants paper trails ... If not, can be regarded as tax evasion or fraud company .. Posted on February 1, 2010.
