How do I get information about a student loan in New Jersey? I attend a school under the name of Harrison Career Institute in NJ.I received financial support for him and I am currently repaying the loan.
But the school has closed down about a year after my registration and I have never received more education.
Where can I call to find out whether or not I can stop paying the loan because the school closed and the money was kept by the school?
Newdad:
The answer to your question depends on whether your loan was a federal loan, or a private loan - you do not state that in your description.
Harrison Career Institute has been a participant in the federal student aid, and its students were eligible for Stafford loans.
Here is what the Ministry of Education has to say about the closed school discharge:
"If your school is closed while you are registered, and you can not complete your program because of the closure, while the U.S. Department of Education loan obtained to pay your tuition at this school can be released .. .
Please keep in mind that you are not eligible for discharge if you meet a similar program of instruction in another school. If you fill such a program in another school after your loan is discharged, you may have to repay the amount of discharge. If you have not received a diploma or certificate but have completed all course work for the program, you are not eligible for release ...
If the holder of your loan learns your school has closed, your loan holder will send you an application for loan discharge. If you do not receive an application, please contact the owner of Ready
