The ambulance provider, serving the north of Lincolnshire, was found less than satisfactory hygiene in a report of the Commission on Quality Care and promised to improve its cleaning practices.
East Midlands Ambulance Service was given 14 days to improve standards of hygiene to minimize the risk of infection.
Paul Phillips, managing director of East Midlands Ambulance Service, said the organization has already made significant improvements since the last audit.
"I was disappointed to learn CQC inspection has identified four vehicles in which we are still far on infection prevention and control standards," he said.
"This is not acceptable and since the inspection, we have redoubled our efforts with our staff, in depth, by investing nearly £ 300,000 of additional funding in this area."
Mr. Phillips added that 495 ambulances are in accordance with the regulations relating to the availability of facilities for hand hygiene and cleaning surfaces.
A basic scheme was launched recently at Back in Northern Ireland to help improve standards of hospital cleaning in the region.
