Fafsa GovernmentFAFSA Info

Description: This article is about the FAFSA form.

FAFSA, the government, financial needs, schools

FAFSA Info

The FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal student aid. Is the only thing the government uses to calculate financial need. In addition, it is the only type you'll need for most schools, although schools may offer slightly different formulas to count your financial needs.

In any case, this should be the main type of financial assistance you produce. The calculation of financial need is the price of attendance less EFC equals financial need.

To complete the FAFSA, you need:

  • to file the FAFSA form after January 1;

  • be sure that the forms have all required signatures;

  • have a photocopy of the forms by mail;

  • positive answer to the question about your interest in work study and other types of financial assistance. In fact, it does not commit you to anything, but only gives you valuable opportunities you can pursue in the future.

  • hand in the original FAFSA form produced by the Ministry of Education in the United States. Photocopies and other reproductions are not accepted;

  • you should not take any addenda and attachments with the FAFSA. If you have all sorts of extenuating circumstances, then you will need to retake it with the director of financial aid to college for which you are applying.

Common mistakes FAFSA filing:

  1. Report income from your 1040, but not the W-2.

  2. Take untaxed income as ADC (Aid to Dependent Children).

  3. Take revenue stepparents.

  4. Leave nothing blank.
